If you’re searching for the Best Yarra Valley Wineries, don’t just follow the crowds to the big-name estates. The real magic lies in the boutique spots—those hidden gems that are the underdogs of the wine world, where passion, personality, and a pinch of quirkiness come together to create something truly special.
So, grab your wine glass (or just imagine holding one—we won’t judge) and let’s dive into the Yarra Valley’s boutique wineries. Spoiler alert: you’re going to want to visit all of them.

1. Seville Hill: Where the Views Are Almost as Good as the Wine
Established in 1991, Seville Hill is the kind of place that makes you say, “Wow, I should really visit the Yarra Valley more often.” Perched on one of the highest points in the region, this family-run winery offers views so stunning they’ll make you forget about your ex.
Their secret? Rich red volcanic soil and a cooler climate that’s perfect for growing grapes with personality. Think bold Shiraz and elegant Chardonnays that’ll make your taste buds do a happy dance. And if you visit in summer, you’re in for a treat—live jazz music fills the air, turning your wine-tasting experience into a full-blown sensory extravaganza.
Pro Tip: Wander through their orchards and vineyards, and don’t be surprised if you leave with a bottle (or three) of your new favourite wine. Just don’t blame us when your credit card statement arrives.
2. Payne’s Rise: Small Batches, Big Personality
Payne’s Rise is the kind of winery that makes you feel like you’ve stumbled upon a hidden gem. Located in Seville, this boutique spot specialises in small-batch wines that are as unique as they are delicious.
The cool climate of the Upper Yarra Valley works its magic here, creating wines with layers of flavour that’ll keep you guessing. From crisp Sauvignon Blancs to velvety Pinot Noirs, every sip tells a story. And the best part? You can order their wines online, so you can enjoy a taste of the Yarra Valley from the comfort of your couch (pyjamas optional).
Fun Fact: Payne’s Rise is so boutique, they probably know your name by the time you leave. Cheers to feeling like a VIP!
3. Seville Estate: The OG (Original Gangster) of the Yarra Valley
If Seville Estate were a person, it would be that effortlessly cool grandparent who’s seen it all and still knows how to throw a killer party. First planted in 1972, this winery has been crafting premium wines for decades, and it shows.

With 10 hectares of meticulously cared-for vineyards and an elevation of over 200 meters, Seville Estate is all about quality over quantity. Their award-winning wines are a testament to their dedication, and the best part? Complimentary tastings are on offer for walk-ins. So, whether you’re a wine connoisseur or just here for the free samples, Seville Estate won’t disappoint.
Pro Tip: Their Reserve Shiraz is so good, it might just ruin other reds for you. You’ve been warned.
4. Soumah of Yarra Valley: Italy Meets Australia (and they get along famously!)
Soumah of the Yarra Valley is like a love letter to Italy, written in wine. Just an hour’s drive from Melbourne, this winery specialises in Italian varietals that’ll transport you straight to Tuscany (minus the jet lag).

Their cellar door offers panoramic views of the vineyards, making it the perfect spot to sip on a glass of Nebbiolo or Pinot Grigio. And if you’re feeling peckish, their northern Italian-inspired cuisine is a match made in heaven for their wines. Think wood-fired pizzas, hearty pastas, and a side of “I never want to leave.”
Their restaurant Ai Fiori Trattoria serves delicious Italian dishes but be sure to make a reservation as this place is popular with locals and visitors alike.
Fun Fact: Soumah was named Yarra Valley Winery of the Year 2019 and 2024 , and one taste of their wines will tell you why. Just try not to get too smug when you tell your friends about it.

6. Boat O’Craigo: A Family Affair (with Wine)
Boat O’Craigo is proof that good things come in small packages. This family-owned winery has been producing hand-crafted wines for generations, and their passion shines through in every bottle.
With over 50 acres of vineyards, they grow a diverse range of grapes, resulting in wines that are as unique as they are delicious. Their cellar door is the perfect spot to sample their offerings, and if you’re lucky, you might even get a peek behind the scenes.
The winery’s commitment to sustainability is evident in every aspect of their operation, from organic farming practices to water conservation efforts. It’s not just about making great wine—it’s about protecting the land for future generations.
Fun Fact: Their sparkling Shiraz is the life of the party. Just don’t blame us if you end up dancing on the tables.
7. Mandala Wines: Elegant, Balanced, and Oh-So-Drinkable!
Nestled in the heart of the Yarra Valley, Mandala Wines is the kind of winery that makes you want to slow down, take a deep breath, and savour the moment. With a name inspired by the Sanskrit word for “circle,” Mandala is all about harmony, balance, and connection—to the land, the vines, and the people who bring their wines to life.
Mandala’s cellar door is the kind of place where you instantly feel at home. With its rustic charm, friendly staff, and panoramic views of the vineyard, it’s the perfect spot to unwind and enjoy a tasting. Whether you’re a seasoned wine lover or a curious newbie, the team at Mandala will make you feel like part of the family.
Pro Tip: Don’t leave without trying their limited-release wines. These small-batch beauties are a true reflection of Mandala’s creativity and craftsmanship.
8. Bulong Estate Winery: Where Dreams Come True (and so does the wine)
Bulong Estate Winery is where dreams come true—literally. This 120-acre property is a popular spot for weddings and private events, and it’s easy to see why. With stunning views of Mount Donna Buang and the Warburton Ranges, it’s the kind of place that makes you want to say “I do” (or at least “I’ll have another glass”).
Their 80 acres of vineyards produce high-quality wines that are as elegant as the setting. So, whether you’re here for a wedding or just a casual tasting, Bulong Estate is sure to leave a lasting impression.
Fun Fact: Their sparkling wine is so good, it might just make you want to get married on the spot.
9. Pimpernel Vineyards: Small Batches, Big Dreams (and even bigger flavours)

Their traditional methods result in low yields but high-quality fruit, and their cellar door is open from Wednesday to Sunday for tastings. So, if you’re looking for a winery that’s as unique as you are, Pimpernel Vineyards is the place to be.
Pro Tip: Their Whole Brunch Shiraz is the kind of wine that makes you want to write poetry. Or at least Instagram about it.
10. Sutherland Estate: Chill Vibes, Great Wines (and no judgement)
Sutherland Estate is the epitome of laid-back luxury. Located in Dixon’s Creek, this family-owned winery offers stunning views, a relaxed atmosphere, and wines that’ll make you want to stay forever.
Their cool-climate wines are a reflection of the region’s terroir, and their outdoor tastings are the perfect way to soak it all in. So, grab a glass, take a seat, and let Sutherland Estate work its magic.
Fun Fact: Their Rosé is so good, it might just make you forget about summer.
11. Barrique Wine Store – 260 Maroondah Highway, Healesville, VIC
Although not technically a boutique winery Barrique Wine Store deserves a special mention as they not only stock a large variety of great wines from the local area (unique wines you’ll find difficult to source from your regular high street liquor store). They are also THE place to go to find amazing wines from local producers who do not sell their wines from a Cellar Door.
They are the champions of local, artisan producers and also know their stuff when it comes to wine, beers and everything else.
This means if you’re looking for something unique than Barrique Wine Store is the place to go to find that special bottle (or bottles) you can’t find anywhere else.
Friday night is a great time to visit as they offer free tastings from the guest winemaker (or craft beer maker) for that evening. There are also $10 glasses of wine for locals (I asked if you had to be ‘local’ to qualify for this offer but even if your a visitor to Healesville that means you’re ‘local’.
In addition to this there’s also hand made dumplings available from one of the local food trucks from the area. Yum Yum for Dim Sum!
So, if you’re looking for that unique bottle of something special you can’t find anywhere else talk to the team at Barrique Wine Store. I guarantee you won’t be disappointed.

Why Boutique Wineries?
Boutique wineries are the rebels of the wine world. They’re small, they’re scrappy, and they’re not afraid to break the rules. With limited production, local sourcing, and a personal touch, these wineries offer an experience that’s as unique as the wines they produce.
So, whether you’re a seasoned wine lover or just here for the views, the Yarra Valley’s boutique wineries are waiting to welcome you with open arms (and a glass of something delicious).
Why Supporting Boutique Wineries is a Big Deal (and why you should care)
Let’s get real for a second. When you buy a bottle of wine from a boutique winery, you’re not just buying wine—you’re buying a story, a passion project, and a whole lot of heart. Boutique wineries are the little guys in a world dominated by big-name brands, and supporting them is about more than just enjoying a good glass of vino. Here’s why backing these small-scale producers is a big deal:
1. You’re Supporting Real People (not just a corporation)
When you buy from a boutique winery, you’re not lining the pockets of some faceless conglomerate. You’re supporting a family, a couple, or a small team of passionate individuals who’ve poured their blood, sweat, and tears (and probably a few spilled glasses of wine) into their craft. These are the folks who handpick the grapes, monitor the fermentation process, and personally greet you at the cellar door. Your purchase helps keep their dream alive—and that’s something worth toasting to.
2. You’re Getting Something Unique (no mass-produced plonk here)
Boutique wineries don’t do “one-size-fits-all” wines. They’re all about experimentation, creativity, and pushing boundaries. Whether it’s a rare Italian varietal, a funky natural wine, or a small-batch sparkling Shiraz, you’re getting something you won’t find on the shelves of your local bottle shop. These wines are made with love, care, and a whole lot of personality—and trust us, you can taste the difference.
3. You’re Helping Preserve Tradition (and the environment)
Many boutique wineries are committed to sustainable practices, organic farming, and minimal-intervention winemaking. They care about the land, the vines, and the future of winemaking. By supporting them, you’re not just enjoying a great glass of wine—you’re helping protect the environment and preserve traditional winemaking methods that might otherwise disappear.
4. You’re Keeping the Yarra Valley Quirky and Cool
Let’s face it: the Yarra Valley wouldn’t be the same without its boutique wineries. These small-scale producers add character, charm, and a whole lot of soul to the region. They’re the ones hosting live jazz concerts, offering wood-fired pizzas, and creating those Instagram-worthy moments that make the Yarra Valley so special. By supporting them, you’re helping keep the valley vibrant, diverse, and downright awesome.
5. You’re Part of a Community (and who doesn’t love that?)
When you visit a boutique winery, you’re not just a customer—you’re part of the family. These wineries thrive on connection, whether it’s a chat with the winemaker, a laugh with the cellar door staff, or a shared moment with fellow wine lovers. By supporting them, you’re joining a community of people who appreciate the finer things in life (and know how to have a good time).
6. You’re Voting with Your Wallet (and your taste buds)
Every time you buy a bottle from a boutique winery, you’re sending a message: that quality matters, that craftsmanship matters, and that small businesses matter. You’re saying no to mass-produced, cookie-cutter wines and yes to something with heart, soul, and a whole lot of flavour.
So, What Are You Waiting For?
The next time you’re in the Yarra Valley (or browsing online for your next wine delivery), skip the big-name brands and seek out a boutique winery. Whether it’s Seville Hill’s stunning views, Soumah’s Italian-inspired wines, or Jayden Ong’s modern vibes, there’s a boutique winery out there with your name on it.
Supporting these small-scale producers isn’t just good for them—it’s good for you, the environment, and the future of winemaking. Plus, let’s be honest: nothing beats the feeling of cracking open a bottle of wine and knowing you’ve made a difference.
Cheers to that! 🍷
